More than 800 students had their first day of classes in Winter 2003 at the new Halifax West High. The challenge of this Tilt-Up construction was meeting the demanding schedule and staying on budget, while selecting building materials, components and systems to satisfy the Healthy School Construction Program. At nearly 185,000 sf, the new Halifax West High is almost 50 per cent bigger with 80 classrooms, a double gym with spring hardwood floor, a spacious music room and a 500-seat auditorium. Halifax West was constructed using the fast-track Design-Build process allowing for completion about eight months sooner.
